Nx Witness licences

You can buy a single licence from us. No minimum order, no obligation to buy a project alongside it. Below is exactly what a licence covers, what the two editions cost you in practice, and the one rule that saves most organisations the most money: you pay per camera, not per server.

One licence is one camera

A licence gives one device the right to record into the system. One camera, one licence. An encoder channel counts as a channel too, so a four-channel encoder needs four.

What a licence does not limit: how many people watch, how many client workstations you install, how many screens you put on the wall, or how much archive you keep. Viewing is free and unlimited. That surprises people who come from systems where every extra viewer was an invoice.

“It costs nothing extra in licences. You still pay per camera and not per server, and that saves a great deal of money.”

Prices are exclusive of VAT. We quote per situation because the number of channels, the term and the hardware around it all move the figure. Customers inside the EU with a valid VAT number are invoiced under the reverse charge.

Where the money actually goes

Add a server, keep your licences

Activated licences belong to the system, not to a particular machine. Every server in the system draws from the same pool, and the total is simply the sum of what you have activated.

So when you run out of processing power or disk space, you add a server and nothing happens to your licensing. With a rack of standalone recorders you pay for each box again, every time.

The same logic applies when a server fails. The licences are not stranded on the dead machine: we reassign them and you are recording again.

Buying from us

How it works in practice

1

Tell us the channel count

How many cameras now, and roughly how many next year. That is enough for a quote. If you are not sure, send the camera list and we will count it for you.

2

You get a quote, not a cart

We would rather advise the right edition than sell you the larger one. If Professional fits, we say so, even though the subscription would earn us more over time.

3

Activation

You receive the licence keys and, if you want, we activate them on your system remotely and check that everything is recording as it should.

Worth knowing before you buy

If you are still on v5.1 or older

From 1 January 2027 cloud connectivity and cloud-dependent services stop maintaining backward compatibility with systems running v5.1 and earlier, and support for v5 ends on the same date. Those systems can lose their cloud connection at any point after that.

The upgrade from v5 Professional to Generation 6 Professional is free and your licence model does not change. You also go from 128 to 256 cameras per server. We check the cameras, plug-ins and integrations first, then upgrade outside office hours so recording does not stop.

Frequently asked

Licence questions we get every week

Can I really buy just one licence?

Yes. There is no minimum order. People come to us for a single channel because a camera was added and the system refuses to record it, and that is a perfectly normal order for us.

Do I need a separate licence for the server itself?

No. There is no per-server licence in this model. You license recording channels, so the number of servers you run is a technical decision rather than a commercial one.

Do I pay per user or per viewing workstation?

No. Viewing is unlimited: as many client workstations, video walls, phones and tablets as you like, with as many user accounts as you need. Only recording channels are licensed.

Can I move a licence to another server?

Yes. Within one system the licences are shared anyway, so nothing needs moving. If hardware is replaced or a machine fails, the licence is reassigned to the new one. It is a short administrative step, and we do it for customers who bought through us.

What happens if I stop paying an Enterprise subscription?

Recording on the subscribed channels stops when the subscription lapses; the archive you already have stays where it is. This is the main practical difference from a perpetual licence, and the reason we usually advise Professional for a system that is not going to change much.

Are updates included?

With a perpetual licence, yes — updates are included for the life of the licence and there is no maintenance contract attached to it. Whether you should install every update immediately is another question; we usually wait for a release to settle and then plan it.

Can you invoice us without Dutch VAT?

Yes, if you are a business inside the EU with a valid VAT number. We invoice under the reverse charge. For customers outside the EU we look at it case by case, because import duties and local rules differ.

Do I have to buy the hardware from you as well?

No. Plenty of customers buy licences from us and run them on their own servers. If you would rather not build the machine, we ship one with everything installed and tested — see servers.
